GEOCAC Geocoin - bronze
You can be a part of geocaching history! By purchasing one of these coins, you will directly contribute to the setting of permanent government recognized benchmark disks directly representing geocaching. The GEOCAC coin was developed as one of the fundraisers and as a commemoration for this extensive project. We are proud to take on this fundraiser and help support benchmark hunting and settings.
The GEOCAC coin was designed by GEO*Trailblazer 1. He underwent tireless work to get this project running by working and coordinating with the Missouri state surveyors. There was even a little bit of a race between Missouri and Kansas to see who would set the first disk. The Missouri benchmark was set at the visitor center near Joplin, and the Kansas disk is being planned for a location east of Meads Ranch (the geodetic center of the United States). Arizona, Florida, and Wisconsin have already placed theirs and other states will soon follow with some already starting their planning process. In addition, there are geocaching events projected to be held at each setting commemorating these momentous occasions.
Each benchmark will have the official name GEOCAC. Once the actual benchmark disks are set, you will be able to do a search in the National Geodetic Survey database and retrieve their coordinates. Plans are being made to have some of these locations established as geocaches, and of course they will be added to Waymarking.com by the waymarking community.
The front of this coin is a representation of the actual benchmark disks. It shows the name of the benchmark and the Geocaching logo. The back shows surveyors from the early 1900s traversing the top of a mountain to set a benchmark disk. This coin is a large 2.25" in diameter and 4mm thick complete with a domed shaped front just like a real benchmark disk.
